Circular Margate is a project from Bon Volks that redirects unwanted construction materials to community and social initiatives in Margate. By reimagining these materials as social assets, the project catalyses a wide range of activities that create lasting social value, empowering local community organisations and fostering positive, sustainable change.
The project has two aims:
1. To intervene in material waste flows in Margate, diverting from landfill and retaining materials at their highest use value.
2. To reimagine materials as social assets, through their diversion to community projects and their use in education, skills learning and employment.
Our ultimate goal is to establish a Materials Hub in Margate that collects surplus materials from various sectors and uses them to drive meaningful change. The Hub will provide a space for education, skills development, and employment, while simultaneously contributing to Kent and the UK’s climate targets by reducing waste, promoting sustainability and embedding circular principles.
